Pattukkottai is a Town and a municipality in Thanjavur
district. Pattukkottai is the Birth place of eminent and
profound personalities like the former PresidentThiru.
R.Venkataraman, the famous Poet Pattukkottai Kalyanasundaram,
the Ex. Ministers Navalar Nedunchezhian, S.D.Somasunaram,
Ex. M.P.Thiru. V.N.Swaminathan etc., The city is famous for
ancient sculptures and temples and was reigned by Raja Raja
Cholan and Serfoji Maharaja. Pattukkottai covers an area of
21.83 Sq. K.M with beautiful villages around the city. The
main occupation of people here is agriculture using cauvery
river water for irrigation. There is a mix of people
involved in agriculture as well as in other business.

Manora Tower (Fort) :
65 km from Thanjavur. The Manora tower is an ancient
tower which is built by Rajah Serfoji in 1814. This site is
situated near the famous Tanjore town in Tamilnadu a major
place of attraction for the tourists especially foreigners
due to numerous temples. Rajah built a fort in the shore in
1814 to commemorate the victory of British over napoleon
Bonaparte at waterloo. Visiting the place built during
Bonaparte period will be very exciting for everyone. People
used to visit here for the exciting view from the top of 8
storied towers. The forts name Manora was derived from the
Minaret which means a small minar.
Pattukottai Kalyanasundaram Mani Mandapam :
He was born on 13-04-1930. Kavingnar Pattukottai
Kalyanasundaram wrote poems depicting weaker peoples
aspirations. He was involved in the farmers’ struggles and
worked for their upliftment. He was also a member of the
Communist Party of India and worked tirelessly for its
ideals. He tested his hands in as many as 17 different
professions like, agriculture, drama, salt work, art fields
etc. As a mark of respect his memorial was opened on
13-12-1999. His Mani Mandapam is located in Muthuppettai
Salai, Nadiyammalpuram at Pattukottai. His statue, life
history and his photographs are displayed here.
Pattukkottai has a famous temple called “Nadiyamman Koil”.
In 9 KMs there is a village called “Palathali”, it has a
West facing famous Durkkai amman temple.
