Agricultural University : The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) came into being on June 1, 1971. However, it had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as early as 1868 and it was later relocated at Coimbatore. In 1920 it was affiliated to Madras University. TNAU assumed full responsibilities of Agricultural Education and Research and supported the State Agricultural Department by delivering research products. Till 1946, the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore, was the only Institute for Agricultural Education for the whole of South India. In 1958, it was recognized as a Postgraduate Centre leading to Masters and Doctoral degrees. The Agricultural College & Research Institute, Madurai was established in 1965. These two colleges formed the nucleus of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University while it was established in 1971. Ph : 0422-6611200

Car Festival : Number of festivals are celebrated in this temple, but the annual Car Festival is celebrated with all pomp and pageantry. The whole City’s atmosphere is changed and people from far and near gather to have the “Dharshan” of deity in the Sanctum Sanctorium in the beautifully decorated car through the important streets during this festival.

C.S.I. Immanuel Church : C.S.I. Immanuel Church is located in the heart of city in Avanashi Road, which is 1km from Railway Station & 12 km from Airport. Eachanari Vinayakar Temple : It is dedicated to Lord Vinayaka and is situated at about 13 kms from the heart of Coimbatore , Tamil Nadu. This is one of the ancient temples in Coimbatore city as it was build some long year back in 1500 A.D. The main deity of this temple is lord Vinayagar and this temple will be close to the hearts of Vinayagar devotees. Actually, the moolavar in this temple was in fact intended for Perur Patteshwarar temple, as it got spanked on the path from Madurai, Eachnari turned to be the holy place. The deity of lord Vinayagar is 6 feet in height and 3 feet in width. The most recent kumbabishekam of this temple took part in the year 1990. Forest  College : One of the oldest institutions of the kind in the country, the Forest college is situated 3.5 kms north of the Railway Station. It is worth a visit to see Museum of Natural History which is housed within the College campus.0422-2432642

Hyder Ali Tippusultan Dakni Ahle Sunnath Jamath : Established in 1789, this is situated 2km from Railway Station. The 1921 Mabilla Rebellion Freedom Fighters who fought against the Britishers and sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom of India were also buried here. It is the main muslim burial ground for the entire city. EID-GAH, where in entire city muslim population congregates for the EID prayers is also here. Ph : 0422-2550945.

 

Marudhamalai Temple : The Marudhamalai hill temple is located at a height of around 500 feet in the highland on the Western Ghats. The temple is 15 kms away to north-west of Coimbatore city, and the place has an excellent salubrious weather. Many vehicles will pass through the Marudhamalai temple and the devasthanam has granted three buses from the low slope of the hill to get through the temple on top. The Marudhamalai temple has the deity of Lord Muruga and the temple features quite comfortable facilities to the visitors making their visit to worship the deity. The major feature of this hill is that, it grows essential medicinal herbs, which is used in making ayurvedic medicines.

Infant Jesus Church : It is one of the most familiar churches located in Kovaipudur, Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. Due to the increased growth of the catholic families, a small church was set straight with the blessings of almighty in the year 1984. A broad worship area is left on the side of the shrine for the worshippers. Quite number of worshipers will make their visit to the church on Thursdays and attend the Novenoe. Kallar Horticulture Farm : Kallar Horticulture Farm is part of the State Horticultural Farm under the Department of Horticulture. A place of natural beauty with Kallar waterfalls complementing, it attracts thousands of tourists from in and around Coimbatore. Irrespective of the place being run by the Horticulture department for the conservation of Vegetation, the place is open to tourists with minimal charges. Khadi Gandhi Gallery : The Government set the Khadi Gandhi gallery up in Coimbatore on 15th of July 1970. The gallery displays pictures of Gandhi right from his birth to his death. Separate cubicles are arranged for each phase in Gandhi’ life, which pictures all major events that occurred in his life. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated with grandeur in this gallery and the collector visits the gallery during ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ and participates in the function followed by bhajans.

Koniamman Temple : In the olden days for every Shiva Temple, there would be a guarding deity in its northern boundary. According to legendry Arulmigu Koniamman Temple is supposed to be of this style, on the northern side of Kottai Easwaran Temple. The history of the temple and deity dates back to 13th Century A.C. From then on until today goddess Konniamman blesses her people with love and grace. The people of Coimbatore have strong belief in the powers of this goddess. The deity grants her followers, whatever they want when they pray her with all sincerity and faith. The sculptural beauty of the present statue is marvelous. Located near Townhall, Coimbatore. Kottai Mariamman temple :

Kongu Naattu Tirupati : Naina hill is one of the unique holy land in Kongu. This hill is proudly called as Kongu-Tirupati. Every Saturday pilgrims visits this temple. Kottai Hidayathul Islam Safia Jamath Kottaimedu : This mosque is located 1 km away from railway station. It is known for its architectural structures. This was the first Mosque to be built in Coimbatore. Arabic college is also a part of the Mosque.0422-2397050

Kovai Kuttralam (Siruvani Waterfalls) : About 37 kms west of the city it is noted for its captivating beauty and the sweetness of water. The panoramic view of the dam and the falls is of enchanting beauty.

Kulanthai Velayuthaswamy Temple :

This temple is located 24 kms from Coimbatore. It is one of the most beautiful temples and was built around 750 years ago. The architectural aspects of this temple are fabulous. This temple is situated on a hill covered with kurunda trees and hence it got it name “Kurunda Malai”. The natural scenaries around this temple adds beauty to this temple. Kundam Thiru Vizha Festival

The annual temple festival at Masani Amman Kovil located about 45kms from Coimbatore. In Tamil Month Thai, the 18 day long festival is celebrated with much pomp and splendor and thousands of devotees flock to the temple during that time.

Located close to the Neelambuur bye-pass on the Coimbatore-Salem national highway. Munthi Vinayagar Temple

It is located 5 kms from Coimbatore Central Bus Stand. Munthi Vinayagar Temple at Puliakulam in Coimbatore is said to be the biggest single stone granite idle in Asia weighing 14 tonnes. Muthu Malai Murugan Temple :

In the high way of Coimbatore - Pollachi, just before reaching Kinathukadavu there is a road towards west to reach a village in the name of Muthugoundanur. Within a reach of twelve kilometers there is a hill called as “MUTHU MALAI” Upon the hill a Temple beautifully located and the profound grace of “Lord Muruga” will spell all over the atmosphere. Panguni Uthiram Festival

This Temple is 7 kms from Coimbatore Railway Station and was constructed by Karikal Cholan over 1500 years ago. There are shrines to the presiding deity Patteeswarar and his consort Pachainayaki and some elegantly carved sculptures in the Kanagasabai hall. Devotees flock to this temple in hundreds during the Panguni Uthiram festival in March every year.

Salim Ali centre for Omithology and Natural History – Anaikatty:

Salim Ali centre for Omithology and natural history (SACON) is a national institution devoted to the cause of conversation of India’s Boo diversity with focus on birds. SACON is situated is the surrounding of Anaikatty. 24 kms north west of Coimbatore.

Saradambal Temple (Race Course):

Swami Dayananda Saraswathi Ashram

Singanallur Boat House :

The cool breeze enveloping the area makes you forget it’s still gruelling summer. The boathouse has three steamer boats, three rowing boats and 40 pedal boats. People can boat between 9. a.m. and 7.30 p.m. The fare for boating is Rs. 15 for adults and Rs. 10 for kids. Ph : 0422-2303176.   1. Topslip “The pollution free heavenly land” is located above 800 feet from the sea level on the Anamalai mountain range. The unique teak forests, Bamboo Forest also located near Topslip. Topslip and Valparai (Valparai to Topslip 65 Km) are small Places with in the Indira Gandhi National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the Coimbatore District at the southern part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in the Anamalai Hills.

  2. Entry formalities: If you are visiting the park for the day you can go directly to Top Slip (Entry INR 50). The Sethumadai checkpost is the entry point to Topslip. In case you plan to stay at Top Slip, accommodation must be booked in advance at the: Wildlife Warden Office. 178 Meenkarai Rd, in Pollachi.

  3. Park details and tips: Private vehicles can drive in the park. Top Slip is best enjoyed if a car is hand at all times. It is possible to walk around the park. You must have a Park Guide with you and you are allowed to walk in the park for a maximum of four hours for INR 70 per person.

  4. There is provision for a conducted bus ride from the Park Reception Office and riding elephants may also be available. Local food and refreshments are available at the facility run at the Tourist Complex, Top slip..

  5. Accommodation in the Park is very basic and it is best to carry sleeping bags and emergency supplies.

  6. A booking at a particular guesthouse may not assure you of accommodation at it. The final allocation decision is left to the Department staff at Top Slip.

Sithalingeswar Temple :

2 km from Singanallur Police Station. The Navapashana lingam made up of Navapashana is situated at Sithalingeswarar Aalayam at Vellalur near to Coimbatore. It took 10 years to make this 8 feet lingam. It is believed that it took one year to create one Pashanam for this Lingam. Presently Navapashana lingam situated at Kovai Vellalur Sithalingeswarar temple has its own importance.

Sri Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple

Sri Sai Dwaraka Trust :

The temple is an exact Replica of Dwaraka Mai (Masjid) of Shirdi. This is the only kind of temple (replica of the Masjid) in Tamil Nadu for Shirdi Sai. This temple was opened on Oct 8th, 2000. Thaipoosam and Thirukarthigai

About 12 Kilometers away from Coimbatore Railway Station is the Marudhamalai temple of Lord Murugan. As the name suggests, the temple is situated on a hillock and the presiding deity is called Dhandayuthapani. The celebrations of this temple are ‘Thaipoosam’ and ‘Thirukarthigai’ in January and February.

Thandu Mariamman Temple :

This temple is located at 2 kms from Coimbatore Railway station. The temple was built during the period of Tippu Sultan. This temple has got a very unique origin. Ph : 0422-2300360.

The Crocodile Farm

Crocodile farm at Amaravathi Dam is just 25 kms from Udumalpet. This place is being developed as a District Excursion Centre. Camera is not allowed. Ph : 04252-256055.

 

G. D. Naidu

Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu was an Indian inventor and engineer who is sometimes referred as the Edison of India. He is credited in manufacturing the first electric motor in India. His contributions were primarily industrial and span the fields of electrical, mechanical, agricultural (Hybrid cultivation) and automobile engineering. First of all he is a scientist but he studied up to only third standard.

Naidu was born on March 23, 1893, in Kalangal, near Coimbatore. He died on the 4th of January, 1974.

The Rock where Polygars elephants were tied up

On the way to Thirumoorthy Malai falls there is one town panchayat called Thali. Once this area was very fertile during the period of polygars. They used the elephants to go for hunts. The elephants were used to carry the hilly products like mango, honey and Nelli from one place to another. On the flat rock, holes have been carved in the shape of crescent moon where the elephants were tied up.This place is called
‘Yanai Kattum Parai’.

Vaidehi Waterfalls :

It is located 30 kms from Coimbatore via. Narasipuram village. It is a fine picnic spot for trekkers. A perennial waterfalls is a major attraction here.

Velliyangiri Andavar Temple :

20 kms from Coimbatore towards Siruvani. Velliyangiri is a beautiful temple situated in one amongs the five hills symbolically representing the five different faces of Lord Siva. VILLEESWARAR Temple in Idikarai :

Lord Shiva blesses here in the name of Villeeswarar; In the month of Avani on 14th,15th 16th the Sunlight falls on Moolavar. A number of inscriptions are found on the walls of the temple. Location: 16kms from Coimbatore & 6 kms from Thudiyalur Timing: 8am to10pm; 6.00pm to 7.30pm; Ph: 9894243633.

VOC Park :

Named after the great freedom fighter V.O.Chidam-baram, this park is maintained by the Corporation. There is a mini-zoo and toy train in the park. Very recently to remind of the animals which lived in the past, Dinosaur Park has been created. This park has all animals which lived several hundred years ago. Baralikkadu

The way is a hilly terrain enriched with green vegetation with a pleasant climate providing many view points to have a awe for these scenes. Enjoy with Coracle Ride in Bhavani River - Delicious Lunch - Trekking - River Bath - The ride covers a distance of 5 km on the cool water with mountains and forest on either side gives us a rare sight. You can also stop by the banks to have a walk into the jungle as you like. Walking into the bushes and marshes, along some seasonal streams, enjoying fresh air really energising us, inhaling the smell of the flowers and so on. A nice bath in the running water with the pleasant breeze giving a cooling effect and a great relief. The Coracle Ride - There are 10 coracles provided with cusion seating. The ride covers a distance of 5 km on the cool water with mountains and forest on either side gives us a rare sight. Having a round ‘O’ in the water is also an other notable experience. You can also stop by the banks to have a walk into the jungle as you like. Delicious Lunch - Chappathi, Variety Rice, Ragi ball with fish curry, Curd Rice, Fruits, Sweet, Vegetable salad, Minaral Water.
